The first 4 files referenced below deal with handling some Q&A
/ computer compatibility problems. Use of these programs should solve problems with newer computers, Pentium II
processors, Y2K and large hard drives. Visit The
Quick Answer Online website for more information
on these and many other topics relating to Q&A.
y2kfixeng.zip
The Q&A
file manager will show erroneous characters for the file date of the file dated after December 31, 1999. This patch
will take care of that problem. This patch is meant for PC's running Windows 95, 98, 2000 and NT. It will not work
on DOS only PC's.
Speedfix1.zip
Q&A v5 will not work with fast Pentium II and Pentium Pro processors.
This patch, prepared by Andreas Göbel of PFP software in August 1998, remedies this by altering the Q&A main executable file: QA1.EXE. Although this
has been tested on Windows 95, Windows NT and Windows 98, you should use it at your own risk and discontinue its
use if you encounter problems. To run the patch simply execute the program and follow the instructions. The patch
makes a copy of your QA1.EXE file as QA1.BAK. This patch can be used instead of
Mo'Slo. The patch has no effect
on Q&A v4 as QA4 does not suffer from this bug. Read the "readme.txt"
carefully before using this patch.
Lesspace.zip
Shareware TSR utility for allowing Q&A (and other DOS programs) to run
on hard drive partitions larger than what the DOS program can normally
handle. Expand the zip file to obtain a detailed text file for extensive
information. ( NEW
VERSION 2.2 )

Tom
Marcellus' Q&A 4.0 Bible Disk
This file in "zip" format contains the files that were
provided with Tom Marcellus' excellent book on Q&A 4.0. Though the book has long since been out of print, and
generally unavailable, many people still utilize the book as an everyday reference tool when working with Q&A.
Through Tom's generosity, these files are being made available to you for you to benefit from the programming and
applications on this disk. Be aware that any macros on this disk may perform adversely on your system, due to variances
in system setup, and the Q&A version you may be using.
John Dow's Q&A Utilities Web Site
John Dow has created some awesome utility programs that make using Q&A
much easier! Be sure to visit his web site, where you can learn more about the utilities he has to offer, view
some excellent screen images of some of the utilities, and even download FREE demo samples of some of these utilities.
Give this site a visit - you'll be glad you did!
Q&A 5.0 Date Patchdownloaded to your computer, and used to
modify some of the Date formats in Q&A 5.0/Dos so that the date formats will conform to similar date formats
in Q&A version 4.0. This Date Patch is NOT a Symantec designed, or Symantec
supported product. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. However, many experienced Q&A users have installed this,
and report no problems.
Printer.txt
Printer.txt is a text file provided with version 5.0/DOS of Q&A.
This text file provides information on new printer drivers provided in version 5.0, and lists the new printer drivers.
The text files mentioned in Printer.txt that are contained in Q&A 5.0 are now available for you to read. Select
the qa5info.zip file below, and unzip the file to access the ASCII text files.
Qa5info.zip
Four ASCII text files in one file (zip format) that discuss various
features of Q&A 5.0, including new programming statements, interoperability with Q&A for Windows, and more.
QAtoClip.zip
QA data to Windows clipboard -- Anyone who wishes to move data from a
Q&A database field, to Windows clipboard easily, may be interested in this shareware product, which is offered
free to individuals, and very cheap for commercial use. It is called "clipboarddos32" and is a suite
of programs allowing the input of data to windows clipboard from the dos command line. The homesite for the program
is HTTP://CYBERNET.PAIR.COM/CLIPBOARDDOS32.HTML It is only about 75kb and is offered as "cripple free shareware".
Jim Pogany found this, and a brief explanatory text file from him is included in this zip file.
QAWinCpy.exe
QAWINCPY
VERSION 1.0; AUGUST 13, 1998; Written by John Dow.
E-Mail: info@johntdow.com http://www.johntdow.comWhen using Windows you expect to have more than one thing up on your
screen at once. Unfortunately, Q&A Windows won't let you have more than one copy of it running. If you try
to start a second copy, it just switches to the first. Even making a copy in another directory doesn't work. If
you download and run the program QAWINCPY.EXE, you can make one or more copies that can all coexist on your screen
at once with the original QAWIN. (For example, two copies would allow you to have the CUSTOMER and the INVOICE
and the STOCK databases all open at once.) This program was written by John Dow and is available without cost.
His DTFWIN program knows how to use it automatically, but is not necessary. Feel free to use QAWINCPY as you wish.
Y2KDate.zip
Here's a zip file (only about 4K in size) that contains a Q&A 5.0
database (y2kdate.dtf and y2kdate.idx) to demonstrate Y2K programming. Also included is a small ASCII file with
very brief comments by Bill Halpern, from PCTA, who provided this.
QAUP.exe
This is a self-extracting file that can upgrade an existing version of
Q&A 4.0 to be able to utilize the "interoperability" feature. This feature allows Q&A 4.0 and
Q&A for Windows to access the same databases.
Lance1.htm This is a text (HTML) document, that provides some helpful information
about DOS Printing in Windows 9x. From e-mail received from Lance Jacobs, with Symantec. A little old, but
helpful.
Lance2.htm
Another text (HTML) document, providing information pertaining to Inkjet,
Deskjet printers. From e-mail received from Lance Jacobs, with Symantec. A little old, but helpful.
5Printer.zip
and Qaprint.zip
(Qaprint.zip is the Qaprint.cfg file, in zip format, so that you can download
it.) These are the QA5 printer config file and a zip of all the font
files from QA5. They will work with QA4, but if you have fonted documents, reports, etc in QA4 using older font
files - if you overwrite those font files with the new font files, some of the font names (descriptions) may have
changed, and this will require you to reassign fonts to those documents, reports, etc. If you are not having printing
problems with your printer and QA4 printer definitions and fonts, you should not install these newer files.
